In 1992 "It's the economy, stupid" summed up that election. In this election, "It's the unity, stupid" would sum it up nicely. What was Obama's message at the 2004 convention? What was his central message for two solid years of campaigning? That we needed to all work together to get out of this, and that he would reach out to the other side. And the American people put him in the Oval Office to do just that, among other things like restoring our image in the world.
And now, after two weeks of trying, many here including kos would have him throw in the towel. If he were to do that, back away from his central campaign message two weeks after he came to office, what would be the result? Do you think the MSM would remind folks for the next four years that Obama tried to reach out in the beginning? And even if they did, do you think the people who give him credit for trying hard for exactly two weeks?
The American people crave unity, and as long as Obama reaches out they will give him the credit. If the Repugs continue to dis him, continuing to act just like Bush crying "It's my way or the highway" while Americans suffer, they will be punished further in 2010. Sooner or later most of the Republicans will follow, or they will be defeated.
