Some will get snippy about the subject of this diary I imagine, but I still find advice here to be really helpful even though this isn't as tight a community as it was back in the day. I hope you folks will indulge me...
My son and I will be driving from Claremont, NH to Pittsburgh, PA over the July 4th holiday. We have to leave on the 4th, as it takes about 10 1/2 hours, and we have to be at the airport at 2:30 on the 5th.
My plan is to drive about 6 1/2 hours the first day, going through parts of NY on the through way, then crossing into PA via 84 W towards Middletown, PA. Anyone have any suggestions of a place to stop after we cross over into PA? That seems to be about half way, so we could stop anywhere after that and be ok. Anyplace have great fireworks? I would be willing to travel 1/2 hour at least if it was worth it. This is a rushed trip that involves viewing headstones, etc...so I am trying to make it more pleasant. Not to mention cheap as I just got laid off. Advice on hotels welcome, especially the old fashioned motels owned by a family...if decent.
I did get reservations to tour Falling Water, which is half way in between the airport and Bedford, PA, our final destination. We have to get my son's relations back to the airport on the 7th for a 5:30 flight, so I booked the 11am tour. I am very excited about that, needless to say. But it would be nice to see some kickass fireworks too.
Any help would be much appreciated!
